In A Brutal Twist Of Irony, Trump Was Personally Responsible For Appointing US Attorney Who Signed Off On The Infamous Hunter Biden Plea Deal

It really doesn't get much better than this.

As expected, Trump and his band of Republican jockeys are effectively pitching a fit over the plea deal that was reached between the US Department of Justice and President Biden’s controversial son Hunter in connection to misdemeanor tax fraud charges lodged against the First Son. Multiple GOP talking heads have railed against the plea agreement, calling it a “Sweetheart Deal” and citing it as proof that a double standard exists within the DOJ when compared to the brutal 37-count indictment recently lodged against scandal-ridden ex-President Trump is the stolen classified document case.

But, what all the Republicans seem to be conveniently ignoring here, is the fact that the US attorney who signed off on Hunter’s plea deal was personally appointed to his position by none other than Donald J. Trump himself.

Recently, the bombshell news broke that the US Department of Justice has formally charged Joe Biden’s son Hunter with failure to pay federal income tax and illegally possessing a weapon. Hunter’s legal team complied and worked with the DOJ to reach a deal for the president’s son that allowed Hunter to plead guilty to the misdemeanor tax charges lodged against him and is expected to soon reach a deal regarding the felony charge of illegally possessing a firearm as a drug user, which is expected to result in no jail time for the First Son.

As one would expect, Conservatives are losing their collective minds over this deal between the DOJ and Hunter Biden, drawing a comparison between Biden’s deal and the slew of far more severe laundry list of federal felony charges lodged against Donald Trump. Republicans have been whip quick to claim that this stark difference between the two wildly different cases is cold, hard proof that President Biden has somehow managed to weaponize the Justice Department.

However, President Biden had absolutely nothing to do with the man who was appointed to the position that ultimately allowed him to offer Hunter Biden such a deal. That was, in fact, all Donald Trump’s doing.

U.S. Attorney David Weiss was responsible for personally signing off on Hunter’s plea deal with the DOJ. Weiss was appointed to his position by Donald Trump in 2017 and almost immediately launched his investigation into the now-president’s son after the U.S. Senate confirmed his appointment by voice vote in February 2018.

While it’s customary for new presidents to request that their predecessors’ U.S. attorneys step down from their positions upon the new administration, Biden left Weiss in his position, likely to avoid any criticism or perceived corruption regarding his son.

In the wake of the plea deal, Newsweek spoke with former U.S. Attorney Gene Rossi over the phone who did agree that Hunter’s deal was favorable for the president’s son, but the simple fact that it was dictated by a Republican-appointed attorney all but guaranteed that “politics did not sway the deal either way.”

“The decision by Republican U.S. attorney seems to, in fact, throw cold water on their major argument that this was a sweetheart deal and that they did it to help President Biden’s reelection chances,” Rossi told the publication, before noting that he would need to see more details before saying with any certainty whether the Hunter Biden deal was “overly generous.”

One of Hunter Biden’s attorneys, Christopher Clark, released a statement on the matter, saying, “I know Hunter believes it is important to take responsibility for these mistakes he made during a period of turmoil and addiction in his life. He looks forward to continuing his recovery and moving forward.”
