Could Barron Trump, who is still a college undergraduate, join TikTok in a “top job,” or a board seat, once the deal is made to put the U.S. division of the company under domestic control?

A new report suggests that this could happen, although it is somewhat thin, and considerable uncertainty remains.

Per a report by The Daily Mail, the president’s youngest son has been “tipped” for a top job at TikTok. The idea appears to have originated with Jack Advent, Trump’s former social media manager, who is himself only 22 years old.

“Young people are overwhelmingly the user base of TikTok,” Avent told the Daily Mail. “I’m hopeful President Trump will consider appointing his son Barron and maybe other young Americans to TikTok’s board to help ensure it remains an app young people want to keep using,” Advent told the newspaper.

There are quite a few things here that are fishy. First of all, Barron Trump is a sophomore in college, and it’s somewhat questionable whether he’s in the market for a full-time job, or even a board sinecure.

Secondly, the TikTok deal appears to be far from final. Trump had “approved” the deal, with Oracle among the American companies supervising the U.S. side of TikTok, last month. However, it does not appear that China has signed off on their end of the deal, and that might have gotten more complicated last week when Trump imposed new tariffs on China. Even if a deal is reached, it’s unclear whether the new entity’s corporate structure would even have a board, much less give the president the power to appoint board members.

And finally, the president’s son accepting a job or a board seat with TikTok would likely pose a massive conflict of interest- especially after Republicans spent the previous four years raising holy hell about Hunter Biden’s overseas business ventures.

Even Advent’s quote — in which he wishes that Trump would “appoint” Barron to the board of TikTok — implies that the president would have the power to do such a thing.

There were some pretty shocked reactions to the idea of Barron Trump getting such a job:
