Donald Trump on Monday morning did something that he hasn’t done often: He bowed to pressure and deleted a social media post.

According to Variety and other media outlets, the president deleted the post, which he made late Sunday night, in which he depicted himself as Jesus Christ. The post had come just hours after Trump attacked Pope Leo XIV, also in a Truth Social post, ripping the pontiff as “weak” while giving himself critic for the American-born pope’s election.

“President Donald Trump‘s Truth Social account removed an image depicting him as a Christ-like figure, after the post generated a wave of outrage from those across the political spectrum, including some conservatives who deemed it blasphemous,” Variety reported.

The White House has not yet commented on the post, or its removal. What is known is that this is a rare instance in which Trump’s biggest supporters seemed put off by what he posted.

Meanwhile, it was determined that the origin of at least one version of the Trump-as-Jesus picture was a February post by Nick Adams, a pro-Trump social media gadfly who has been nominated to multiple positions in the Trump Administration.
