Donald Trump, of course, was impeached twice during his first term, although neither impeachment led to his removal from office, nor did they prevent him from getting elected again in 2024.

In Trump’s second term, a couple of House Democrats have introduced impeachment resolutions, although they haven’t gone anywhere, mostly because the Democrats do not hold a House majority and cannot move legislation.

However, should Democrats win control of Congress in the 2026 midterms, impeachment may conceivably end up on the table again, as both Trump impeachments happened during the second half of his first presidency, when Democrats had control of the House.

Trump has said that if the Democrats win the midterms, they will impeach him again, and now Vice President JD Vance has said so too.

That came up in an interview Vance did with Jesse Watters of Fox News that aired Wednesday night.

“I’m sure he’ll get impeached. Look, they have nothing to actually run on or govern on,” Vance said. “Their entire obsessive focus of that party is they hate Donald Trump. So if they ever get power, are they going to, you know, lower Americans’ taxes? No. Are they going to make your life more affordable? No. Are they going to solve the crime crisis? No. What they’re going to do is they’re going to spend all their time and all of your money trying to get Donald Trump. I think it’s ridiculous.”

The Democrats are not, by any means, “running on” the idea of impeaching Trump again. In fact, Democratic leaders in Congress, last May, made a point of blocking the longshot push by a Michigan Congressman,  Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI), who had introduced an impeachment resolution,  as well as a push to force a vote on it. Thanedar later backed down.

Trump, just days earlier, had made a prediction that he would be impeached again in the event of a Democratic victory.

“You got to win the midterms, because if we don’t win the midterms, it’s just going to be — I mean, they’ll find a reason to impeach me,” Trump told the House Republican policy retreat earlier this week. “I’ll get impeached.”
