Vice President JD Vance is an adult convert to Catholicism, while his wife, Usha, is not and is a member of the Hindu faith. This led to a surprising moment from the vice president this week.

Per The Independent, the comments came when JD Vance was speaking at the University of Mississippi, at a Turning Point USA event.

Vance said at the event that his wife comes from “not a particularly religious” background, and their three children are being raised Christian.

The topic actually came up at an event when a Hindu woman in the crowd asked Vance about his interfaith marriage.

“I honestly do wish that because I believe in the Christian gospel, and I hope eventually, my wife comes to see it the same way,” the vice president said. “If she doesn’t, then God says everybody has free will, so that doesn’t cause a problem for me. That’s something you work out.”

The comments upset quite a few social media users.
