Vice President JD Vance is an adult convert to Catholicism, while his wife, Usha, is not and is a member of the Hindu faith. This led to a surprising moment from the vice president this week.
Per The Independent, the comments came when JD Vance was speaking at the University of Mississippi, at a Turning Point USA event.
Vance said at the event that his wife comes from “not a particularly religious” background, and their three children are being raised Christian.
The topic actually came up at an event when a Hindu woman in the crowd asked Vance about his interfaith marriage.
At a town hall held by Turning Point USA on the campus of the University of Mississippi, an Indian woman asked Vice President J.D. Vance during an question and answer session about being in an interfaith, intercultural relationship with his wife Usha, who is Hindu. She went on to… pic.twitter.com/u6xdvEIxx2

“I honestly do wish that because I believe in the Christian gospel, and I hope eventually, my wife comes to see it the same way,” the vice president said. “If she doesn’t, then God says everybody has free will, so that doesn’t cause a problem for me. That’s something you work out.”

The comments upset quite a few social media users.
Lol 😂 Usha Vance is Hindu not agnostic this is not very hard for you to follow. They even had a Vedic Hindu wedding and one of his kids name is Vivek. The biggest hypocrite of them all is JD Vance, which is why he isn’t going for if nominated in 2028. pic.twitter.com/0rEoibWttv

Watch as Vance denies his wife’s religious identity as #Hindu.
Instead, he labels her as currently without a religion and a future Christian.
Folks, believe the far-right when they say Christian is the only legitimate religious identity. They mean it. #intolerance #Republicans https://t.co/1tQYce4mVK
