A shooting at a Dallas ICE facility on Wednesday morning left multiple people dead and injured.

The attacker reportedly fired from a nearby building into the facility’s sally port and later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons told ABC News.

Dallas police said one person died at the scene and two others were hospitalized. No law enforcement officers were hurt during the incident.

“While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop,” Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said. “Please pray for the victims and their families.”

Shortly after the attack, U.S. Vice President JD Vance tweeted: “The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.”

However, many quickly pointed out that the victims were not ICE officers. The detainees were the ones who were shot and injured.

The Dallas ICE office has faced problems this year. Last month, shots were fired at an ICE office in San Antonio. No one was hurt. Officials said it was a “targeted attack” on workers, caused by political talk and false information about detention rules.

In Dallas, the shooter fired from a nearby building and hit a secure area inside the ICE office. Acting ICE Director Lyons said, “Three individuals were down, including the suspected shooter. We’re not sure on their condition.”

The reason for the attack is still unknown, and police continue to investigate.

As the investigation continue, politicians need to know the facts before speaking. Careless words can make serious situations worse. Leaders should be honest and take responsibility when talking about real events.
