Christina Pushaw, press secretary for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, posted a mix of President Joe Biden’s statements saying that he would “shut down the virus,” concluding with his statement from Monday that has caused conservatives to lose their minds. “What a difference a year makes,” Pushaw tweeted. Fox News called Biden a “hypocrite,” and critics lashed out on Twitter. And of course, the outrage is not genuine.
Biden spoke with Gov. Asa Hutchinson (AR-R) this week, and the governor said he was concerned over the possibility of “federal solutions” getting “in the way of state solutions.” That’s a repeated mantra of Republicans, so Biden assured him that that wouldn’t happen. Edited clips circulated, and at least one, in particular, went viral.
Let’s look at what Biden said.
“Look, there is no federal solution; this gets solved at the state level,” the President said. “I’m looking at (New Hampshire) Gov. Sununu on the board here. He talks about that a lot. And that ultimately gets down to where the rubber meets the road.”

However.
Once it was edited, it was made to sound as if the Biden administration doesn’t have a plan to fight COVID.
Here’s that viral tweet:
Joe Biden claimed he would shut down the virus.
Now a year later when he failed to do so, he says there is no federal solution to COVID.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki tweeted out the full clip that she shared from the White House’s account:

Fox News ran with it, too, quoting the President saying, “There is no federal solution. This gets solved at the state level,” without providing the full quote. Fox then went on to complain about vaccine mandates. The problem is, though, that the pandemic would have been over ages ago if Republicans participated in fighting the disease, too, instead of reporting on quotes that are horribly taken out of contect. I guess that was too much to ask of them. Hutchinson thanked Biden during the conference call and applauded the President’s efforts to “depoliticize” the response to COVID-19.
