Karoline Leavitt, 28, the White House press secretary, is expecting her second child with husband Nicholas Riccio, 60. She shared the news on Instagram, revealing that she will be having a baby girl due in May 2026.
Leavitt posted pictures of herself in front of a Christmas tree, wearing a white sweater dress and holding her stomach.
“The greatest Christmas gift we could ever ask for – a baby girl coming in May 2026,” she wrote. “My husband and I are thrilled to grow our family and can’t wait to watch our son become a big brother. My heart is overflowing with gratitude to God for the blessing of motherhood, which I truly believe is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth.”

Leavitt and Riccio are already parents to 17-month-old Niko. She will stay on as press secretary while pregnant, making history as the first in the role to do so.
Just weeks ago, her godson’s mother, Bruna Caroline Ferreira, was detained by ICE in Massachusetts while picking up her 11-year-old son. She was shuffled across the country for weeks, facing deportation. Ferreira has lived in the U.S. since 1998 and was in the process of getting a green card. She had been protected under DACA during the Obama years.
Ferreira spoke about her situation. “Just because you went to a Catholic school doesn’t make you a good Catholic,” she told CNN. She added, “You are a mother now. How would you feel if you were in my shoes? … How would you feel if somebody did this to you?”
The contrast is hard to miss. Leavitt calls motherhood “Heaven on Earth.” Meanwhile, the administration she serves enforces policies that tore a child from his mother, her own extended family.
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the arrest, saying Ferreira’s tourist visa expired in 1999 and citing a prior arrest for battery. Ferreira and her attorney dispute that.
She told CNN, “I’m heartbroken. I’m heartbroken for my son. You know, I’m heartbroken for my mother, who has worked for a quarter of a century cleaning houses, earned an honest living, has paid her taxes. I’ve been a law-abiding citizen. I don’t even have a parking ticket. And I’m so proud of it.”
Leavitt returned to work soon after giving birth to Niko. Following the July 13 assassination attempt on Donald Trump, she told The Conservateur in October 2024, “I looked at my husband and said, ‘Looks like I’m going back to work.’ ”
