We needed this.

Here at Political Tribune, we do politics. Day in, day out. 24 hours a day. 7 days a week. 365 days a year.

It’s important stuff. And we’ve made it our mission to keep our readers up-to-date with factual, real-time information — especially as we live through one of the most trying times this nation and this generation has or will likely ever see.

But every once in a while, we all need a break.

Living under the reign of terror that is the Donald Trump administration — as they try to strip us of our health insurance and basic human rights, throw innocent cages and rip the wombs from their mothers, and toss us out to the whims of a deadly virus — it can be really easy to forget that there is still good in this world.

Good people who do good things still exist.

And who better to prove that than Keanu Reeves?

While Trump and his people are busy stealing an election and taxpayers’ money, Reeves is still doing what he’s always done — everything he can to make life a little easier for those who deserve it most.

For years and years now, the John Wick and Matrix star, who’s become a household name through his acting career, has been secretly funding a private charitable foundation to help fund children’s hospitals and cancer research.

Back when the news first broke, Snopes verified the reports that Reeves had told the Ladies Home Journal back in 2009:

I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research. I don’t like to attach my name to it, I just let the foundation do what it does.”

Keanu’s desire to help fund children’s hospitals and cancer research stems from personal experience, as his sister Kim was diagnosed with leukemia around 1991 and fought the illness for around a decade before finally going into remission.

If that’s not enough to make you love him, try this one for size.

Hello! Magazine reported that Reeves gave away approximately $75 million dollars of his own earnings from the Matrix movie to members of the costume and special effects teams for the film — all in all, about $1 million per each crew member.

Saying, “Money is the last thing I think about. I could live on what I have already made for the next few centuries” when asked about his decision to give so much away.

Reeves once said, according to Hollywood.com, “Money doesn’t mean anything to me… I give lots away and live simply… We all know that good health is much more important.”

Despite Keanu’s private lifestyle, a stark difference to his fellow Hollywood stars, it’s clear that he still makes time and puts in the effort to be the best friend he can be — with actor Drew Barrymore recently recalling the Matrix actor taking her for a spin on his motorcycle for her 16th birthday.

Does Keanu’s kindness solve everything that’s wrong with the world? No. But I can tell you this — I can sleep just a little sounder tonight knowing that people like him are still out there.
