Lara Trump Faces Heavy Backlash Over China Trip Photos—And Everyone Is Asking The Exact Same Thing

The whole thing felt deeply unserious

Lara Trump spent three days in Beijing this week and documented nearly every moment on social media. By the time she posted “Honored to be on such an unforgettable trip,” the replies had already settled on one recurring question: why was she there?

Lara does not hold a formal government role. She currently works as a Fox News host and previously served as co-chair of the Republican National Committee.

Her husband, Eric Trump, also joined the delegation as executive vice president of the Trump Organization. The White House described his attendance as being in a “personal capacity,” which quickly revived comparisons to the years Donald Trump spent criticizing Joe Biden for bringing Hunter Biden on foreign trips.

That comparison followed the trip almost immediately.

Before departure, Lara posted a smiling selfie on the White House lawn alongside Eric, Dan Scavino, Walt Nauta, Natalie Harp and Marco Rubio.

The caption read: “Team CHYYYYYNA.”

The image quickly spread across X, where many people questioned the tone of the post during an official trip to China. The reaction only grew louder once the delegation arrived in China.

After the trip, Lara uploaded more photos from the state banquet and cultural visits, including one captioned: “Honored to be on such an unforgettable trip!!!!”

The replies immediately circled back to taxpayers, Air Force One and the same unresolved question about why she and Eric were included on the trip at all.

Neither the White House nor Trump himself has publicly addressed the comparison.

Eric Trump’s presence carried its own separate layer of scrutiny. As a senior executive inside the Trump Organization, he oversees major real estate investments and cryptocurrency ventures, making his appearance alongside sixteen American business executives on a presidential state visit especially notable to ethics watchdog groups.
