So many times over the course of my career, I’ve found myself saying, “You can’t make this stuff up.” And I mean it every single time. But this time, well, I think I mean it a little more than ever before.
Over the weekend, Colorado Republican House Rep. Laren Boebert — who has found herself in a metric truckload of new controversy this week, after the same PAC that took out Madison Cawthorn released explosive allegations against her, claiming she used to be an unlicensed, paid “escort” and got not just one but two abortions in connection to her old career — delivered a rousing speech at the Charis Christian Center in Colorado Springs during their Family Camp Meeting event.
Allow me to just go ahead and warn you — it got really, really weird.
In the wake of the Uvalde, TX, Robb Elementary School massacre, AR-15 assault rifles have been on the proverbial chopping block among the millions of Americans who are sick and tired of this country’s resounding lack of gun control laws that allows a demented 18-year-old high school dropout to legally purchase an assault weapon that he would go on to use to slaughter 19 innocent children and 2 beloved teachers.

But instead of defending the literal dead children, it seems Lauren has taken it upon herself to be the “voice” of the AR-15. She’s so vehement in the weapon’s defense, in fact, that she apparently thinks Jesus Christ himself could have avoided that whole crucifixion thing if only he’d had a few AR-15s on him when the folks were nailing him to the cross.
“The little Twitter trolls, they like to say, ‘Ah Jesus didn’t need an AR-15! How many AR-15s do you think Jesus woulda had?'” Boebert said from the stage during the Charis Christian Center’s Family Camp Meeting on Saturday.
Don’t worry, she answered her own question.
“Well, he didn’t have enough to keep his government from killing him, so…” Lauren cracked, igniting some pretty pathetic laughter from the ultra-Conservative crowd.
