No, it’s not the most embarrassing moment ever photographed of Lauren Boebert and a boyfriend. But it’s still pretty bad.

As the Denver Post put it, “Lauren Boebert stirs controversy with racist Halloween costume making light of ICE crackdown.”

The Colorado Congresswoman, per the report, was photographed wearing a “Mexican-themed costume, which included a sombrero, a dress and a sign that made light of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.”

“Mexican Word of the Day: Juicy. Tell me if juicy ICE coming,” the sign stated, while a man with Boebert appears to be dressed as an ICE agent.

Latino advocacy groups in Boebert’s home state of Colorado condemned the costume.

“She should be ashamed of herself,” Stacy Suniga, the president of the Latino Coalition of Weld County, told the Denver Post. “Though I believe she is incapable of any emotion that generates human decency. Her bigotry and ignorance are clearly evident in her chosen apparel this day.”
The costume was also condemned by Trisha Calvarese, a Democrat who is planning to challenge Boebert for her Congressional seat next year.

Boebert, contacted by the newspaper, refused to apologize.
“It’s a Halloween costume,” she said, through a spokesperson.
While the Congresswoman, who switched districts last year to avoid a strong challenge, has less in the public eye this year, she has a long history of controversial behavior, as noted by the Denver Post.

“Four years ago, Boebert apologized after a video circulated on X, the social media platform then known as Twitter, of her implying that Rep. Ilhan Omar, a fellow member of Congress and a Muslim, could be a suicide bomber. She also apologized for her behavior during a performance of the ‘Beetlejuice’ musical in Denver in September 2023, when she was caught vaping, groping her date and flipping off Buell Theatre staff after they asked her to leave.”
