As families across America tighten their belts, Trump’s loosening his at the buffet table.

A video from Mar-a-Lago shows a sprawling seafood buffet laid out under crystal chandeliers, complete with an ice sculpture so big it could chill a small nation’s drinking water. Lobster tails, oysters, and towers of shrimp glistened under golden lights while uniformed waiters rushed to refill champagne glasses.

All this comes just as Trump’s administration pushes forward with cuts to federal food programs that keep millions of families from going hungry.

The footage, shared by PatriotTakes and others online, quickly set the internet ablaze. “Seafood spread and ice sculpture at Mar-a-Lago as Trump continues to starve poor children,” the post read.

It didn’t take long for that line to become the headline of public outrage.

What makes it worse is the timing. The government remains shut down, over a million workers have gone without pay, and food assistance for more than 42 million low-income Americans has been frozen. But at Mar-a-Lago, there’s apparently no shortage of shrimp cocktail or expensive champagne.

The event’s theme was reportedly inspired by The Great Gatsby, and you couldn’t script it better. The wealthy guests laughed and toasted under chandeliers while real families across the country wondered how they’d afford breakfast.
