Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) convened a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee and concluded it by threatening former Obama administration officials with prison before acknowledging that everyone thinks he is Trump’s lapdog.
Donald Trump has been obsessed with pursuing his “Obamagate” conspiracy, which alleges that law enforcement somehow framed disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn when he lied to the FBI about his contacts with Russians during the 2016 campaign and the transition of power.
Lying to the FBI is a felony, and Flynn pleaded guilty to it twice in court. But he is desperate to stay out of jail so he withdrew his plea and Attorney General Bill Barr directed the Justice Department to drop the case.
Graham, of course, is taking up Trump’s conspiracy theory in the Senate. During a hearing, Graham whined about his Democratic colleagues not taking the wild accusations seriously.

“I wanna find out why they kept going after Flynn when everybody that looked at Flynn said he shouldn’t be a part of Crossfire Hurricane,” he said in reference to the operation conducted to figure out if Russians had infiltrated Trump’s campaign. “We’re gonna have to do that by ourselves. Y’all could care less. That really says a lot I think, not good, about this committee. But having said that, we’re gonna go where the evidence takes us and I’m gonna try to answer some basic questions about how it got so off the rails and try to explain to the public why the FISA court was so upset.”
Graham then suggested Obama officials may be seeing prison time.
“And I don’t know if anyone is going to go to jail. People went to jail in the Mueller investigation,” he said. “Well, I think there’s some people who are real good candidates for going to go to jail.”
The South Carolina senator, who is currently in a tied re-election race with Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison, also acknowledged that people believe he is “in Trump’s pocket.”

If anything, Graham made it quite clear that he is in Trump’s pocket by pursuing this ridiculous conspiracy. FISA warrants are examined and signed by judges and they are also signed off on by high-ranking Justice Department officials. There was every reason to believe Russia had infiltrated or were trying to infiltrate Trump’s campaign. Special Counsel Robert Mueller investigated and concluded that Russia did interfere with the election and that Trump’s campaign had a lot of unusual contacts with Russians. Flynn lied to investigators when he was questioned. That’s a felony, not a conspiracy.
Graham should be ashamed of himself for disgracing the United States Senate with this witch hunt.
