Cambridge’s little Prince Louis was the life of the party during his great grandmother’s Platinum Jubilee weekend — and not particularly for the best of reasons, much to his Duchess mother’s chagrin.
As I’m sure we’ve all seen by now, the adorable 4-year-old tot was less than thrilled to be a part of the family’s festivities — resulting in quite the viral moment for the royal family who lives virtually every waking moment of their lives surrounded by reporters and photographers, as the royal little one chose the most inopportune moment to lay his toddler antics on thick with sour faces, covered ears, a stuck-out tongue, and a lot of back talk to his Duchess mama.
Now let me just say Kate Middleton handled this like an absolute boss. Anyone who has spent much time at all around a typical toddler, especially their parents, knows how difficult it can be to keep your head on straight, your temper in line, and your patience on point when your kid chooses the absolute worst time to pull all their typical kid tricks out of their bag. But the Duchess pulled it off seamlessly.
However, if you’re like us, you couldn’t help but wonder what Kate was actually saying to the tot during his royal temper tantrum.

The Sun reported that the Daily Star spoke with lip-reading expert Jeremy Freeman, who was able to reveal that Kate said “You have to,” prompting 4-year-old Prince Louis to say, “I don’t want to.” Managing to stay level-headed, Kate responded to her tot, “I said no hands” and “look,” while pointing out the parade to her unsettled son. At one point, the Duchess added, “stop doing that” when the royal toddler made a rather sour face at her.
Seriously, handling a toddler who is entirely not here for it in your average grocery store is a feat to be reckoned with. So, we more than applaud Kate for her ability to not have a mental breakdown while her kid was showing his rear in front of the whole world.
