Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Arizona, went on high alert Friday morning after reports of a possible active shooter. Soldiers and staff were told to stay inside and follow instructions from emergency teams.
The base’s social media post warned families and personnel to shelter in place, saying safety is the “top priority.” Civilians were asked to stay away from the area while authorities worked to confirm the situation.
U.S. Senator Ruben Gallego took to X, thanking first responders for their fast reaction and asking everyone nearby to be careful as more details emerged.

Officials initially reported no signs of gunfire or any confirmed shooter. The lockdown continued while buildings were being cleared as a precaution. Personnel were instructed to stay in place until the base was officially declared safe.
By 11:21 a.m., Luke AFB announced the lockdown had been lifted. The 56th Security Forces Squadron and local law enforcement confirmed there was no active threat. Normal operations resumed across the base.
“Any report of a potential threat to our people, installation, or equipment is taken seriously at Luke AFB,” Brig. Gen. David Berkland, commander of the 56th Fighter Wing, said. “We initiated lockdown procedures to protect our people while our Security Forces Defenders and law enforcement partners assessed the situation. We use these measures decisively and proactively, and today they worked exactly as intended.”
