It might be hard to notice, so a war in Iran and so many other major things are going on, but a partial government shutdown is ongoing, with Democrats blocking funding for the Department of Homeland Security.

Per The Daily Beast, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt “joined the MAGA meltdown” over the failure of a Senate vote to end the shutdown. The most recent vote only received 51 votes, short of the needed 60 votes to overcome a filibuster.

According to the Hill, Democrats are withholding funding for ICE, following the chaos in Minneapolis.

“Democrats voted against the Homeland Security appropriations bill because it includes funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), two agencies they say need reforms after immigration agents shot and killed two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis,” the Hill reported.

“We all know that we do not have agreement on how to deal with ICE. We know very simply that Democrats just want ICE to behave like any police department in America and use warrants and not wear masks,” Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said this week.

Republicans, though, have reacted with anger over the latest failed vote.

“Democrats in Congress are intentionally hurting innocent Americans for purely political purposes,” Leavitt said on X this week.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) also joined the pile-on, declaring that “Democrats are holding border security and airport safety hostage for their open-border, pro-criminal agenda.”
