MAGA Seething After Trump Fawns Over Mamdani During Presser

The president and the mayor-elect of New York had a surprisingly cordial White House meeting.

For much of the time that Muslim Democratic Social Zohran Mamdani was running for mayor of New York, both Donald Trump and many supporters of the MAGA movement have been saying highly critical things about him. Trump has regularly called Mamdani a “communist,” even endorsing longtime enemy Andrew Cuomo over him, and threatening to cut off federal funding to New York City in the event of a Mamdani victory.

Meanwhile, others on the right have called the incoming mayor a terrorist and an antisemite, and even proposed denaturalizing or deporting him.

But on Friday, Trump and Mamdani met at the White House; the meeting was cordial, and the president, who once threatened to ban Muslims from the country, has surprisingly nice things to say about the new mayor of the city with which he himself was long associated.

“We’ve just had a great meeting, a really good, very productive meeting,” the president said to the press after the meeting.

“One thing in common, we want this city of ours that we love to do very well,” the president said, per CNN. “And I congratulated him, and we talked about some things in very strong common, like housing and getting housing built, and food prices. The price of oil is coming way down… I think he is going to surprise some conservative people, actually, and some very liberal people.”

Trump also praised Mamdani for keeping Jessica Tisch as police commissioner.

Mamdani also called the meeting “very productive.”

There were, perhaps unsurprisingly, some MAGA and other right-leaning figures not so happy with that unlikely chain of events.

They were led by Laura Loomer, known for her love of Trump and hatred of Muslims:
