In the wake of the New Year’s Day vehicle-ramming attack in New Orleans that left 10 dead and dozens injured, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) falsely linked the tragedy to the Biden administration’s border policies. Her remarks, however, were quickly called into question as new details about the attacker emerged.
Greene took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to compare the incident to a 2016 terrorist attack at a German Christmas market, writing, “What did we expect would happen with wide open borders and millions of gotaways? The problem is no one trusts the FBI under the current leadership, so everyone is questioning every detail they can find. What an absolute disaster America is in.”
Terrorist attack in NOLA similar to the one in the German Christmas market.

She later posted, “New Orleans terrorist attacker is said to have come across the border in Eagle Pass TWO DAYS AGO!!! Shut the border down!!! Who did our government bomb lately that is taking it out on innocent Americans?”

Suspect’s Background Disproves Border Claims
Authorities have since confirmed that the suspect, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was a U.S. citizen born in Texas, a detail that undermines Greene’s claims of a border connection. Jabbar, a military veteran, reportedly carried out the attack with a rented pickup truck adorned with an ISIS flag. Investigators believe he may not have acted alone, though his exact motives remain under investigation.
Family Speaks Out
A woman identified as Jabbar’s sister-in-law expressed disbelief at the accusations. “It don’t make no sense. He’s the nicest person I’ve ever known,” she told NBC News, choosing to remain anonymous. “I really don’t know what happened. He was a good man. He takes care of his children and everything.”
Politicizing Tragedy
Greene’s remarks have drawn criticism for appearing to politicize the tragedy before key facts were confirmed. The incident, currently being investigated as a potential act of terrorism, highlights the need for a measured response rather than speculative claims.
As investigations continue, officials emphasize the importance of relying on verified information rather than jumping to conclusions. This tragedy, like others, underscores the complexity of addressing both domestic and international security threats without politicizing the pain of those affected.
