Earlier today, former Trump administration official and staunch MAGA loyalist Peter Navarro found out the hard way that the January 6th House Select Committee that’s currently investigating the infamous, deadly Capitol attack is officially fed up and finished with the “f*cking around” part of this investigation, and they’re now steamrolling forward with the “find out” portion.

According to a statement released by the United States Department of Justice, the devout Trump ally has now officially been indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of contempt of Congress hailing from his outright and ongoing refusal to comply with congressional subpoenas issued against him by the House Select Committee.

Peter went out of his way, over the last several months, to make it crystal clear that he refused to comply with the subpoena “in any way.” He is now reaping the consequences of that decision.

The DOJ notes in their announcement, “Each count of contempt of Congress carries a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of one year in jail, as well as a fine of up to $100,000. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.”

When the news of Navarro’s indictment hit earlier today, Florida’s Trump-loving, scandal-ridden Republican lawmaker Matt Gaetz just so happened to be right in the middle of an episode of his podcast, and he didn’t seem to take the news so well.

Gaetz interrupted his show to tell his viewers that the former Trump administration had officially just been indicted by the Justice Department for his ongoing refusal to comply with the congressional subpoena issued against him, resulting in charges of Contempt of Congress — and I think it’s safe to say that Matt looked a little rattled by the news.

Of course, the Right-wing Congressman was quick to try to save face and lean heavy on one of the Right’s newest talking points — the notion that the entire January 6th House Committee is completely illegitimate, so therefore nothing they do or say is valid under the law.

Good luck using that in court when it’s your turn on the chopping block, Matt.
