Years ago now, the media cycle was absolutely saturated for weeks with the news of deeply disturbing allegations against Trump-loving Republican FL Congressman Matt Gaetz and his alleged inappropriate involvement with an underage girl. It was all anyone could talk about for quite some time and then it seemed to just… go away, as quickly as it came about. Millions of Americans assumed that this sudden silence on the matter ultimately meant that Matt Gaetz was going to get away with it.

That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

CNN reporter Paula Reid broke the news this week that the original House Ethics investigation into the FL congressman and his alleged involvement with a teenage girl is heating back up — serving as what is almost assuredly Matt Gaetz’s worst nightmare.

Reid broke the news on a segment with Jake Tapper, confirming, “We’ve learned that the House Ethics Committee investigating Congressman Gaetz has done a new round of outreach to potential witnesses, including a woman who was 17 years old when she allegedly had sexual contact with Congressman Gaetz.”

It doesn’t stop there, though, according to Reid.

“We learned they have also reached out to the Justice Department asking for materials from its years-long investigation into the congressman where they examined this alleged sexual contact with a minor. They did not ultimately opt to charge the congressman,” the CNN reporter went on to add.

“Now, in response to our new reporting tonight, the congressman says, quote, ‘Those allegations were not true, have never been true, and the people who spread those lies have been exposed, indicted, and imprisoned.'”

Reid was sure to note that Rep. Gaetz has not been criminally charged with any wrongdoing. However, Gaetz’s very close associate, Joel Greenberg, has already admitted to multiple sex crimes against underage girls — including soliciting and having sex with the very same minor in question concerning Congressman Gaetz. Greenberg was ultimately sentenced to 11 years in prison for his crimes.

“The Ethics Committee had its own probe starting in 2021 into the congressman,” Reid explained. That investigation was put on hold to yield to the federal investigation into the allegations against Gaetz by the Department of Justice. “After the federal investigation wrapped up last year, this was all revived.”

The CNN reporter went on to reveal that Matt Gaetz has “privately blamed” former shamed Republican Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy for the revival of the damning investigation. Reid personally believes that this was a large driving factor in Gaetz’s unhinged efforts to unseat McCarthy from the speakership, though Gaetz denies that.
