Judging from most of the early excerpts, Melania Trump’s new memoir revisits several controversies that most people have long forgotten about.

The former First Lady talked earlier this week about the time many years ago when she did nude modeling. Now, leaks from the book look back at the time when the then-First Lady, to great controversy, redid the Rose Garden at the White House.

According to The Daily Beast, Melania has issued another audio excerpt from the book, on X, in which she discusses that episode.

“When the committee for the preservation of the White House asked me to renovate the Rose Garden I felt a deep responsibility to “respect tradition and to preserve its grandeur for future generations,” Melania says in the promotion. “In my book, I share the story of this journey, how my team and I worked to safeguard this piece of our history.”

That renovation was highly controversial at the time, leading to a major petition when the Biden Administration came to power for Jill Biden to undo the changes.

Presidential historian Michael Beschloss was among those who expressed anger about the changes at the time:

While some had claimed that Melania removed rose bushes and trees that had been in place in the Rose Garden for more than a century, a Reuters fact check pointed out that this wasn’t really the case.

Nevertheless, there were quite a few outraged reactions to the ex-First Lady promoting her book in this particular way:

In another preview of the new book, Melania addressed the first assassination attempt on her husband, and appeared to float conspiracy theories about that shooting and the Secret Service:

Donald Trump, while touting the memoir earlier this week and trying to get his supporters to buy it, appeared to admit that he has not actually read the book. Meanwhile, a Guardian columnist pointed out that Melania is “acting pretty strangely” ahead of the release of her book.

“The handful of cryptic promotional videos, which have a David Lynch-like quality to them, and brief quotes to Fox News that have followed haven’t shone much light on Melania’s writing process or the contents of the book, although there are a few intriguing titbits,” Arwa Mahdawi wrote.

“The ever hopeful mischief-making part of my mind would like to think that Melania’s memoir contains some exciting truths we haven’t heard before. Some insights into where the proverbial bodies are buried – and why Ivana Trump’s actual body is interred on the former president’s golf course. Perhaps Melania, who is rumoured to hate politics and her husband, has played the long game and her memoir contains an October surprise that will sink Trump’s election chances?
