Not the best timing

Women’s History Month is usually a time to celebrate the achievements of women who made lasting contributions to science, activism, politics, and culture. At a White House event marking the occasion, Melania Trump decided to place herself in that tradition.

Speaking to the audience, the first lady described herself as a “visionary.” She followed that description with a reflection on how she approaches her work and personal ambitions.

“Often alone at the top, I follow my passion, listen to my instinct, and always maintain a laser focus,” she said during the speech. “In solitude, my creative mind dances, filling my imagination with originality.”

The reaction online was swift.

Several users pointed out past controversies connected to Melania, including accusations that parts of her speech at the 2016 Republican National Convention closely resembled remarks once delivered by Michelle Obama.

Despite the backlash, Melania defended the idea that she has built a diverse professional portfolio.

During the speech, she highlighted her involvement in multiple ventures, including fashion, skincare products, digital assets, publishing, accessories, and filmmaking. She specifically mentioned her work producing a documentary project titled Melania, saying she played an active role in shaping the film creatively, overseeing production decisions, and guiding its marketing.

The documentary reportedly cost around $75 million to produce and promote. According to reports, it earned roughly $7 million during its opening weekend. While those numbers may be modest by Hollywood standards, they are considered relatively strong for a documentary release.

Melania also encouraged the women in attendance to invest in their own growth.

“Curiosity is a core value that keeps me ahead of the curve,” she said, adding that women should make time for themselves, continue learning, and pursue their passions with confidence.
