Another self-inflicted headache

Recently, Melania Trump took to X to promote her Fostering the Future Accounts initiative, a foster care savings program she has been developing since 2021. Announced alongside Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in June, the program is designed to help children in the foster care system build long-term financial security.

Melania’s post read: “Every foster child deserves our unwavering support, and it’s time for all states to step up.”

Within hours, the conversation had moved well past foster care and landed squarely on Natalie Harp.

The trolling did not appear out of thin air. It followed two books published in quick succession that have placed Harp’s relationship with Trump under far greater scrutiny.

Michael Wolff’s All or Nothing, published last year, was the first to describe Harp’s around-the-clock presence with Trump as a source of concern inside his inner circle. According to Wolff, even members of the Secret Service reportedly viewed her as a “potential danger to herself as well as the president.”

Regime Change, released on June 23 by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, added another layer. The book reported that Trump told aides, “All of you will go off and make money. She’ll never leave me,” and described Harp as “the only one who loved him as much as his wife and his kids.” It also revealed that Harp left handwritten notes in Trump’s personal spaces, including one that read: “You are all that matters to me.” Chief of Staff Susie Wiles reportedly came across the notes and asked herself: “Where am I?”
