On Thursday, weeks after the peak in the news related to Jeffrey Epstein and the Epstein files, Melania Trump surprisingly emerged to make a statement, denying any ties to the disgraced financier.

“I am not Epstein’s victim,” the first lady said in remarks Thursday. “Epstein did not introduce me to Donald Trump.”

That Epstein had introduced the president and his wife has been a staple of conspiracy theories for several years, although none of them were substantiated.

“I have never had any knowledge of Epstein’s abuse of his victims,” she said. “I was never involved in any capacity. I was not a participant.” She admitted that she “crossed paths” with the late convicted sex offender in 2000, when she and Trump were first a couple.

“I have never been friends with Epstein. Donald and I were invited to the same parties as Epstein from time to time, since overlapping in social circles is common in New York City and Palm Beach,” the first lady said. “To be clear, I never had a relationship with Epstein or his accomplice, [Ghislaine] Maxwell.”

“At the time, I had never met Epstein and had no knowledge of his criminal undertakings,” Melania said, per CNBC. “Fake images and statements about Epstein and me have been circulating on social media for years now… Be cautious about what you believe: These images and stories are completely false.”

“I’m not a witness or a named witness in connection with any of Epstein’s crimes.”

She also called on Congress to “act.”

Once again, there is not evidence linking the first lady to Epstein’s crimes in any way, or that she as closes with Epstein as her husband once was. But the timing of the speech is somewhat suspicious, especially coming long after the Epstein story had for the most part left the news.

In addition, false interpretations of the Epstein documents are a common scourge, often ensuring famous people of all political persuasions.
