Amid the recent controversy about the ever-present White House aide Natalie Harp, another subplot has been ever-present: First Lady Melania Trump hasn’t been around the White House much.

That changed on Thursday, when Melania appeared and joked about it.

“Good afternoon, I heard you missed me,” the First Lady said. “Here I am.”

The First Lady did not say anything about where she had been lately.

Per Newsweek, the First Lady attended, along with the president, a “Fostering the Future” event. The occasion was to announce “a new partnership between her foster care initiative, IndyCar, Fox Sports, Indiana University and Purdue University,: ahead of the IndyCar race this weekend in Washington.

According to the Newsweek event, Melania appeared just four times in public in July: at the “Salute to America 250” July 4 event, at Sen. Lindsey Graham’s funeral, at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and at the World Cup Final in New Jersey. That made more than a month since she had made any public appearances.

There has not been any explanation as to why the First Lady has been around so rarely.

Social media users had plenty of thoughts, however.
