Melania Trump Responds To Viral Barron-Harvard Speculation

It’s always the same game

After days of internet rumors, the First Lady has broken her silence about claims that her son, Barron Trump, was rejected by Harvard University. According to her, the story is entirely false.

The rumors began after Donald Trump cut all remaining federal contracts with Harvard University, worth about $100 million, following another one of his public attacks on the school. Soon after, the internet was filled with speculation that his actions were linked to claims that the university had rejected his son Barron. Melania Trump quickly responded, firmly denying the rumor.

“Barron did not apply to Harvard, and any assertion that he, or that anyone on his behalf, applied is completely false,” said her communications director Nicholas Clemens.

Still, the story took off online. Even Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, a Democrat from Rhode Island, added fuel to the fire. He reposted an article about Trump’s Harvard attacks and tweeted:
“Can’t help but wonder how many Trumps got rejected by Harvard.”

However, according to official statements, Barron never even applied.

So, where did all this come from? The timeline is telling.

Back in April, Trump first went after Harvard for what he called “woke madness.” Then, when Harvard refused to meet his demands, he canceled funding. This month, he went a step further and terminated every single remaining contract with the university.

And while all that was happening, people online started guessing that Trump’s anger had something to do with Barron.

It’s easy to see why people jumped to that idea. Trump often gets personal in his battles, and the timing of his attack on Harvard fueled the speculation. But in this case, the facts don’t match the rumor.

Barron has chosen a different path.

He is currently studying at Stern Business School at New York University (NYU). His father attended the University of Pennsylvania, and several of Trump’s other children attended Georgetown. So Barron broke the family tradition, and apparently, that was his own choice.

Last fall, Donald Trump told the Daily Mail that Barron had been accepted to “a lot” of schools but decided on NYU.

“He’s a very smart guy, and he’ll be going to Stern, the business school, which is a great school at NYU,” Trump said. He also said Barron thought about following in his footsteps to Wharton but chose NYU because he liked the school and wanted to stay in New York.

Barron graduated from Oxbridge Academy in Florida and now lives at Trump Tower while attending classes in Manhattan. According to Melania, he always planned to stay in New York.

“He wants to be in New York and study in New York and live in his home,” she said during an interview with Fox News last year.
