Former First Lady Melania Trump’s attendance at the final night of the Republican National Convention this week has been the topic of much discussion — ranging from her undeniable cringe during Kid Rock’s big performance to her apparent side-step of her husband’s kisses on stage, following his formal nominee acceptance speech that served as the RNC’s finale.
To be frank, a lot of people were surprised that she actually even showed up at all.
Now, according to new reporting from CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, that is quite literally all she was willing to do.
It’s relatively customary for the spouse of the Republican presidential nominee to say at least a few words at the big convention — as did newly nominated Trump VP pick J.D. Vance’s wife, Usha Vance, when she introduced him to the RNC crowd.

According to Collins, Melania was repeatedly offered to do the same — she simply did not want to.
When the CNN discussion turned to Melania’s attendance at the RNC, Collins highlighted the former first lady’s infamously independent nature:
It’s all by design … And really, as we know and witnessed Melania Trump — when she was the first lady of the United States and Donald Trump was in office — she does things on her own accord and often cannot be pressured or convinced into doing something. If she does not want to do it.”
Melania has delivered RNC speeches in the past, both in 2016 and in 2020 and it seemed Trumpworld was hopeful that she would follow tradition this year to publicly support her husband’s presidential candidacy.
But Melania said no dice.
According to Collins, multiple people appealed to Melania multiple times, but Donald’s wife remained steadfast in her refusal to speak from the stage on her husband’s behalf.
“I’m told by two sources that multiple people appealed personally to the former first lady to speak at this convention as we’ve seen, happened in the modern political era,” Collins said. “But she declined to do so.”
“She did not want to have a speaking role at this convention. Now that’s notable because, typically, we’ve seen, as we did last night with Senator Vance’s wife, political spouses come out we tried to reveal a softer side of their spouse,” the CNN reporter revealed.
“They’re not often talking about policy, but we will not be seeing Melania Trump in a speaking capacity tonight, even though she was asked multiple times to do so.”
If one thing is clear, Melania Trump is not about to do a single thing she doesn’t want to do.
