Melania Trump appeared elegant but distracted as Donald Trump took the stage at the United Nations on Tuesday. Cameras caught her glazed-over expression while the president raged about migration, wars, and climate change.
Trump claimed he had ended seven conflicts in 7 months, naming Israel and Iran; Pakistan and India; Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo; Thailand and Cambodia; Armenia and Azerbaijan; Egypt and Ethiopia; and Serbia and Kosovo. Many of these conflicts were short-lived or long-standing tensions, and it is unclear whether his peace claims will hold.
The First Lady remained composed in her cream suit and caramel blouse. She clapped only when she noticed a camera pointed her way.

Trump used the platform to lash out at London Mayor Sadiq Khan. “I look at London, where you have a terrible mayor, terrible, terrible mayor, and it’s been so changed, so changed. Now they want to go to Sharia law, but you’re in a different country. You can’t do that. Both the immigration and their suicidal energy ideas will be the death of Western Europe if something is not done immediately,” he said.
He also returned to the UN building itself. “As far as I’m concerned, frankly, looking at the building and getting stuck in the escalator, they still haven’t finished the job,” Trump said. “Unfortunately, many things in the United Nations are happening just like that, but on an even much bigger scale.”
Melania continued to watch, offering only subtle acknowledgment. Her calm, reserved demeanor stood in sharp contrast to the fiery words of her husband.
Trump also mentioned his brief encounter with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. “He seemed like a very nice man. Actually, he liked me, I liked him. And I only do business with people I like. When I don’t like them, I don’t like them. But we had, at least for about 39 seconds, excellent chemistry. It’s a good sign,” he said.
