Former Vice President Mike Pence is against Donald Trump’s choice of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.) to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Pence believes RFK Jr. is the wrong person for the job and is asking Republicans to reject him.
“For most of his career, RFK Jr. has supported abortion on demand during all nine months of pregnancy. He wants to overturn the Dobbs decision and has called for laws to make Roe v. Wade permanent,” Pence said in a statement shared online. “If confirmed, RFK Jr. would be the most pro-abortion Republican-appointed secretary of HHS in modern history.”
Pence also urged Senate Republicans to “reject this nomination” and choose someone who respects pro-life values.
Pence, in a rare statement, opposes RFK Jr. at HHS: “For the majority of his career, RFK Jr. has defended abortion on demand during all nine months of pregnancy, supports overturning the Dobbs decision and has called for legislation to codify Roe v Wade. If confirmed, RFK, Jr.…

The Department of Health and Human Services is a powerful part of the government. It manages programs like Medicare and Medicaid, and its leader can make important decisions about healthcare, including abortion policies. RFK Jr. is known for his controversial views, including spreading anti-vaccine misinformation. Now, his past support for abortion rights is making many Republicans angry.
Why would Trump pick someone who doesn’t fully support Republican ideas? Some think Trump is trying to appeal to moderates, but this decision could upset his core supporters, especially those who are pro-life.
Pence’s reaction shows the Republican Party is deeply divided. Many Republicans still follow traditional conservative values, like being pro-life. But Trump’s unpredictable actions are creating conflicts within the party.
Trump built his brand as someone who breaks the rules and shakes up politics. His decision to nominate RFK Jr. might be part of that strategy. However, it risks alienating voters who supported him because they thought he shared their values.
Pence’s call to reject RFK Jr. highlights this divide. “On behalf of tens of millions of pro-life Americans, I respectfully urge Senate Republicans to reject this nomination,” he said.
It’s unclear if Pence’s appeal will work. Many Senate Republicans are loyal to Trump, and they might approve RFK Jr.’s nomination despite Pence’s objections. This fight is about more than one nomination. It’s a sign of the bigger issues inside the Republican Party. The GOP seems unsure of what it stands for. Is it still the party of conservative values, or is it just following Trump’s lead?
As voters, we need to watch closely. A divided party can’t lead the country effectively. The drama over RFK Jr. shows the chaos in today’s Republican Party. If they can’t agree on their own beliefs, how can they solve the problems Americans face every day?
