Speaking on The Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell on MS NOW, 88-year-old Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman, famed for The Shawshank Redemption, Driving Miss Daisy, and his iconic narrations, called President Donald Trump a “convicted felon” and said he is “leading us down a s***hole.”
“Can I use any profanity?” Freeman asked. “Well, we have somebody sitting in the White House who is leading us down a s***hole.”
He added: “I can’t personally understand how a convicted felon… convicted! [Someone with] 34 felonious counts of wrongdoing gets to be president. How do you do that?”
Freeman dismissed defenders of Trump’s presidency. “I don’t care! That ruling went down before he stepped into the Oval Office. It just doesn’t make sense to me.”

He was referring to Trump’s 2024 conviction in New York. A unanimous 12-person jury found the former president guilty of all 34 counts in a hush money case. Trump reimbursed Michael Cohen for payments to Stormy Daniels, whose story about a 2016 affair threatened his campaign. The jury concluded Trump falsified business records to hide other crimes, including conspiracy to influence an election by “unlawful means.”
These “unlawful means” included violations of the Federal Election Campaign Act, falsification of additional business records, and breaches of state and federal tax laws. Trump was convicted on all counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, a historic moment for U.S. politics.
Earlier, Freeman also discussed AI on CBS Mornings. Asked about companies using AI to replicate his voice or likeness, he said: “I’ve got lawyers.”
Compensation could change his view. “I think that’s a different outlook on it,” he said. He referenced a 2011 campaign by British insurance company More Than, which used a soundalike in commercials. “I remember some years ago an English company paid me handsomely to let someone in England who could sound like me do a [commercial]. I said: ‘Yeah, that works.’”
