What do you know? Marjorie Taylor Greene’s got some explaining to do yet again after she recently purchased a new home in Washington D.C., according to recent Congressional financial disclosures, despite having literally and publicly bashed the nation’s Captial, calling D.C. a “crime-ridden Hell hole.”
In a public post on her official X (formerly known as Twitter) account, hailing from November 2022, Greene wrote, “Washington DC is a crime ridden hell hole.”
After calling for Congress to revoke the “Home Rule” — a law signed into effect by Richard Nixon in 1973 that gave residents of the District of Columbia a bit more local power and autonomy — the controversial far-Right Georgia Republican congresswoman went on to add that “Our nation’s Capital is an embarrassment.”

Apparently not too embarrassing for Greene to own a home there, though.
Several weeks ago, Greene’s 2023 annual financial report was filed and eventually made public, and, lo and behold, it shows that the congresswoman now owns a lavish condo in the heart of the District of Columbia, valued somewhere between $500,001 and $1 million.
Raw Story took a deep dive into Greene’s blatant hypocrisy and, as such, spoke with an at-large councilmember for the Council of the District of Columbia, Christina Henderson, who openly urged the Georgia congresswoman to educate herself before opening her mouth or running to her social media.
“There is far more to D.C. than the federal enclave, and as a part-time resident and now property owner, I’d encourage Rep. Greene to learn more,” Henderson told the publication. “Often the uninformed use the revocation of Home Rule as a talking point without realizing the day-to-day implications for the 700,000 residents who live here. Luckily for the congresswoman, there is an excellent exhibit about the history of Home Rule in the District and its importance on display now at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. Library card not required.”
It is unclear exactly where Greene’s condo is located in D.C.
It is not at all uncommon for members of the United States Congress, particularly those who do not permanently reside within driving distance of the District of Columbia, to purchase or rent and maintain a secondary residence in or around Washington D.C. to cut down on extensive travel when Congress is in session.
It’s just not quite as common to openly bash and trash the place when you’re buying a second home there.
