MTG Moves To Invoke 25th Amendment Against Trump

A constitutional remedy with no takers

Marjorie Taylor Greene has seen enough. So has Alex Jones. So, apparently, has everyone except the Cabinet.

The former Georgia congresswoman, once one of Trump’s loudest cheerleaders, called for his removal from office Tuesday after he posted that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran doesn’t meet his 8 p.m. deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

“25TH AMENDMENT!!! Not a single bomb has dropped on America. We cannot kill an entire civilization,” Greene wrote on X. “This is evil and madness.”

Alex Jones, the Infowars founder and one of Trump’s most devoted supporters, asked: “How do we 25th Amendment his ass?” A question for the ages.

Over Easter, Greene went after Trump’s entire Christian inner circle. “Everyone in his administration that claims to be a Christian needs to fall on their knees and beg forgiveness from God,” she wrote.

“I know all of you and him and he has gone insane, and all of you are complicit.” This from a president who closed his Easter Sunday threat to bomb Iranian power plants with “Praise be to Allah.”

By Tuesday afternoon, more than 30 House Democrats had joined the call, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Maxwell Frost, along with Senators Ed Markey and Ron Wyden.

Rep. Mark Pocan put it simply: “25th Amendment RIGHT NOW! Trump is too unhinged, dangerous, and deranged to have the nuclear codes.”

Sen. Chris Murphy suggested that if he were in the Cabinet, he would spend Easter on the phone with constitutional lawyers. Bold strategy for a holiday.

None of it matters. Vance and the Cabinet remain firmly behind Trump, with no members signaling any willingness to act. Even Democrats acknowledge the reality, with Rep. Jim Himes noting that Republicans “remain zombie-like acolytes.”

Trump himself brought up the 25th Amendment at a Cabinet meeting in March, joking that if he revealed his Iran plans, “they’d probably institute the 25th Amendment.” He found it funny. His critics, less so.

Greene’s outburst comes in the context of the special election runoff in her old Georgia 14th Congressional District. A Trump-endorsed Republican, Clay Fuller, faces Democrat Shawn Harris in the solidly Republican seat.
