A 12-foot statue of Donald Trump and the late Jeffrey Epstein holding hands has suddenly appeared on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. It immediately caught attention for its strange subject and the timing during the ongoing Epstein Files saga.

The sculpture is made of foam, resin, wood, and wire. It shows Trump and Epstein standing on pedestals, smiling, and appearing ready to stroll toward the Washington Monument.

Below them are 3 plaques. Two feature excerpts from a birthday letter Trump allegedly wrote to Epstein for his 50th birthday. The letter reportedly includes a hand-drawn naked woman and Trump’s signature.

Trump has denied writing the letter, calling it fake. He also sued the Wall Street Journal for $10 billion, saying that “no authentic letter or drawing exists.”

The statue appeared early Tuesday for “Friendship Month.” A spokesperson for the small, anonymous group The Secret Handshake told The Independent it will stay until Saturday. The group said it celebrates “the friendship of these real men.”

The White House criticized the statue. A spokesperson said, “Liberals are free to waste their money however they see fit – but it’s not news that Epstein knew Donald Trump, because Donald Trump kicked Epstein out of his club for being a creep. Democrats, the media, and the organization that’s wasting their money on this statue knew about Epstein and his victims for years and did nothing to help them while President Trump was calling for transparency, and is now delivering on it with thousands of pages of documents.”

The spokesperson added, “There’s very few people who have gone on the record and called Trump one of his good friends.”

Trump and Epstein were seen together at social events in the 1990s and early 2000s. They were even photographed at Trump’s 1993 wedding to Marla Maples.

Trump once called Epstein a “terrific guy” in a 2002 New York Magazine article. Recordings obtained by the Daily Beast last year captured Epstein describing himself as Trump’s “closest friend.”

Their friendship ended around the mid-2000s. After Epstein’s arrest in 2019, Trump said he had not spoken to him in 15 years. In July, Trump said he ended the friendship after Epstein “stole” young female employees from his private club. The president has repeatedly called Epstein a “creep.”

Survivors of Epstein’s abuse, members of Congress, and some of Trump’s supporters have criticized the administration’s handling of the case. Earlier this month, the Department of Justice released tens of thousands of Epstein files. Most were already public, according to lawmakers.
