Donald Trump has long been known for looking unusually bronzed. Buzzfeed, in December, traced how Trump’s apparent bronzer changed throughout 2024. It’s never been known exactly which product the president uses, but various pictures over the years have shown the often uneven application of the bronzer.

Shortly before the election last year, former Time Magazine photographer Emily Keegin shared her theory about Trump’s bronzer habit.

“We need to talk about the bronzer,” Keegin wrote.

“When Trump took office in 2017, he was significantly less orange… But as his term went on…more bronzer was applied. The more stressed…the more makeup.” She argued that if Trump wears a lot of bronzer, it’s a sign that he thinks he’s “losing.”

Whether or not Trump utilizes a tanning bed as well has been argued about for years. At least one book, by Apprentice contestant-turned-White House staffer Omarosa Manigault Newman, claims Trump had a tanning bed installed in the White House, which was denied at the time.

“Trump has adhered to one constant: a conspicuously sun-kissed glow, one that has shone like a stoplight against Washington’s graying backdrop,” the New York Times said in a 2019 look at the president’s mysterious skincare routine.

The bronzer was out in full force — although certainly not evenly applied— on Tuesday, when Trump was at the White House to meet with the new Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney:

There was much reaction from those who follow the Trump tan mystery.
