According to a new poll by The Washington Post, 86% of voters say the Epstein files should be released. And a solid 61% believe those files contain embarrassing information about President Trump.
That number is even higher when it comes to others in power. 66% think the files will expose Democrats. And 84% believe billionaires are hiding in there, too.
This comes after weeks of pressure. The Justice Department put out a vague memo earlier this month saying there was no client list and no new charges. That response did not sit well with the public. Many were expecting transparency. What they got felt like an attempt to avoid accountability.
Trump responded by telling Attorney General Pam Bondi to release “whatever she thinks is credible.” He also asked the Justice Department to release grand jury testimony related to Epstein.

But the pressure didn’t end there. The Wall Street Journal reported that Bondi had already told Trump back in May that his name appears multiple times in the files. That report raised more alarms and pushed the story back into the spotlight.
The White House dismissed the Journal’s story. Trump’s spokesman Steven Cheung called it “another fake news story.” No further comments were made about Bondi’s alleged briefing or Trump’s appearance in the files.
Still, the numbers are moving in the wrong direction for the president. The same Washington Post poll showed that 58% of voters disapprove of how Trump is handling the Epstein case. Only 16% said they approve.
The Washington Post surveyed 1,089 adults. The margin of error was around 3.3%.
The poll also showed how closely Americans are watching. 64% said they are following the news about Epstein and the missing files. That is a strong figure for a case that began years ago and has mostly faded from official discussion. Interest is still high, and the demand for answers is growing.
When asked about Epstein’s death, only 15% said they believe the official ruling that it was a suicide. 42% said they are unsure. And 44% believe he was killed. These numbers show there is little public trust left when it comes to this case.
Other recent polls show similar results. A July Economist and YouGov poll found that 79% of voters want every Epstein-related document released. And 67% believe the government is hiding key evidence. That includes 59% of voters who support Trump.
A Quinnipiac poll from the same month showed that most voters also disapprove of Trump’s handling of the situation. Concerns are coming from both sides of the political aisle.
