The hype surrounding Donald Trump’s injured ear keeps making the media rounds, so New York Magazine reporter Olivia Nuzzi decided she needed to get a better look at the infamous appendage, clipped by a would-be assassin’s bullet. This is the ear, of course, that launched thousands of questions and a mountain of speculation.

And of course, misinformation. There’s always misinformation. Trump’s middle son Eric, claimed during the Republican National Convention that the gunman had “took off half” of his father’s ear.

Then there were those who wondered, including one Republican lawmaker (former Illinois Rep. Joe Walsh), if medical information was being withheld to keep the extent of the wound hidden from the public, New York Magazine reports.

“Trump has posted that his ear was pierced by a bullet, but the sad fact is that he’s an unreliable source. News organizations need to wait for more credible confirmation of what happened,” journalist Steven Beschloss wrote at the time.

But what Nuzzi found during the interview three weeks after the shooting may be the key reason Team Trump has kept fairly mum on the situation. Like the seasoned journalist that she is, she laid everything out in descriptive prose.

“An ear had never before been so important, so burdened,” she wrote at the time. “An ear had never before represented the divide between the organic course of American history and an alternate timeline on which the democratic process was corrupted by an aberrant act of violence as it had not been in more than half a century.”

But when it came to what she observed, it seemed more bark and less bite.

“Yet an ear had never appeared to have gone through less,” she noted. “Except there, on the tiniest patch of this tiny sculpture of skin, a minor distortion that resembled not a crucifixion wound but the distant aftermath of a sunburn.”

Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), Trump’s former White House physician and infamous boozer, provided more specifics about the injury to Trump’s ear.

He described the wound as “kind of a half-moon shape,” he told Nuzzi and added “there was nothing to stitch.” The offending bullet had merely “scooped” a tiny amount of “skin and fat” off the top of the former president’s ear.

He was quick to add that this doesn’t mean that Trump has fat ears. Nosirree. “Everybody has fat and skin on top of their ears. He’s got good ears,” he said.

Nuzzi wrote, “By which he did not mean to imply that Trump has especially fat ears.”

And of course, Trump was seen wearing that silly-looking bandage over the afflicted ear at the Republican National Convention in the days following the incident, but he soon removed the bandage because he purportedly heals quickly.

But Pete Souza a well-respected photographer for the Obama administration was viciously attacked on X just for posting a photo of Trump’s ear after the attack, showing what Nuzzi apparently saw.

“I was perplexed by photos online of Trump boarding his plane en route to a Bitcoin conference,” he wrote on Instagram. “There was no bandage on his right ear. I re-posted one of the photos on Twitter and wrote, ‘Look closely at his ear that was ‘hit’ by a bullet from a AR-15 assault rifle.'”

Because the response was so dreadful he left X for Threads.

Souza picks up where he left off on Instagram.

Obviously, all of this is much ado about nothing, to quote Shakespeare, but Trump will continue to play this to his advantage. You can be sure of that. He’ll be the first convicted felon president to be shot in the ear.

So much to brag about.

And if you’d like to see just how big of an idiot Eric Trump is, here’s this below.
