The groveling never ends

Some folks in politics must have permanent knee pain, because the way they bow to Donald Trump is getting out of control. This week, someone finally said it out loud and decided to have a little fun with it.

At an event in Stockton, Governor Gavin Newsom rolled out a new joke product called MAGA Kneepads. Yes, kneepads. A perfect gift for every Trump fan who drops to the floor the second he wants attention. The crowd got the joke right away and loved it.

Newsom called out CEOs, college leaders, lawyers, and politicians who fold the minute Trump snaps. He said they help drag the country backward while pretending they have no choice. In his view, these folks have power, but act scared of their own shadow.

After the event, Newsom doubled down online. He mocked the GOP for “bending the knee” and joked that he would even have Trump sign the kneepads for them. The sarcasm did not need subtitles.

In his view, too many institutions are bowing for survival instead of fighting for principle.

Newsom has taken swings at Trump before. His Patriot store is filled with joke merch that pokes at Trump and his supporters. It is his way of throwing a punch back at a movement that always wants the last word. And clearly, it gets under their skin.

But Newsom said this is about more than jokes. He warned that big institutions are giving Trump way too much ground. He said people with real power are choosing the easy way out and hoping no one calls them on it. In his words, history will remember who stood tall and who folded the moment things got tough.

Newsom also pointed to recent diversity and equity settlements as proof that some universities are backing down. He called it shameful and said Trump’s loyal fans will regret how far they bowed.

He even tossed in a heaven joke, taking a shot at Trump’s own comments about not being sure he would make it through the pearly gates.
