It seems Donald Trump’s 2024 VP running mate pick is already coming back to bite him as one political analyst theorizes that the former President and Republican presidential nominee is experiencing some serious buyer’s remorse of J.D. Vance’s nasty old comments about women and children resurface and go viral across the nation.
Vance has drawn criticism across the board, with some celebrities even beginning to weigh in, over his 2021 comments to Tucker Carlson, in which he trashed Democrats as “childless cat ladies.” The matter was made that much worse still for the 2024 Republican ticket, as additional comments from that same year resurfaced that heard Vance arguing in favor of giving parents additional voting power in the US.
Now, political commentator Michael Smerconish has spoken with CNN and said it’s almost undeniable at this point that Donald and his allies are not happy with the massive uproar, just literal days after Vance was confirmed.

“I think it’s not playing well in Mar-a-Lago,” Smerconish said. “I don’t know how it’s playing in middle America. I assume not well, but I’m sure it’s not playing well in Mar a-Lago because the last thing that former President Trump wants is to have J.D. Vance become a drag on the ticket when he’s got other issues that he’s got to deal with.”
Trump’s entire plan was thrown off when President Biden unexpectedly announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential election and immediately endorsed his VP Kamala Harris in his place, just literal days after Trump had formally confirmed Vance at the RNC. Smerconish says that Vance’s unsavory past came up at the absolute worst time, and made it almost impossible for the ex-president to land on any sort of effective line of attack against his new Democratic opponent.
“There’s also a tone question here that this brings to my mind in terms of how does the Trump campaign, and I think they’re wrestling with this, and so far coming to the wrong answer, how do they deal with Vice President Kamala Harris?” Smerconish went on to add. “What are they going to say about her, in my view, to say that she’s a progressive from San Francisco and to regard her as the most liberal member of the United States Senate? That’s all appropriate, that’s all debatable, that’s all fair game. To talk about her as a DEI hire and to say anything that smacks of misogyny or racism, I think he’s going to have enormous blowback.”
“So they’ve got to get their act together and decide now how they’re going to handle her, and what I’m seeing in his Truth Social responses so far, meaning (former) President Trump, tells me he’s taking the wrong approach,” the political commentator explained on CNN. “He should have been more dignified, he should have come out of that convention as the victim that he was of an assassination attempt and continued to try and maintain that level of dignity.”
