In a belligerent Truth Social post on Tuesday morning, ahead of his deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, President Donald Trump warned that “a whole civilization will die tonight.”
This has led to shocked reactions from Democrats and even some Republicans.
According to The Daily Beast, some Republicans have responded to the “civilization will die” threat by calling for Trump’s impeachment.
These Republicans, to be clear, are not currently in elected office. Among them is sometimes Trump adviser Anthony Scaramucci. “The Mooch” called on Senate Majority Leader John Thune to move for Trump’s removal from office.
“A whole civilization will die tonight.” @johnthune Senator Thune: Are you serious right now? Are you not going to denounce this? Are you not going to seek the removal of this crazy person?
This is your responsibility that is what Article I of the Constitution is about.

Conspiracist Alex Jones, meanwhile, has called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked to remove Trump from office.
Bill Kristol, the longtime neocon thought leader who broke with the Republicans over Trump a few years ago, wrote simply “impeach Trump” on X:

Meanwhile, one Democrat, Rep. John Larson (D-CT) himself introduced articles of impeachment against Trump in Congress.
“Larson, 77, introduced 13 articles of impeachment against Trump on Monday, citing the president’s military intervention in Venezuela, the deployment of National Guard troops to cities across the country and his executive order to curtail birthright citizenship, among other charges,” Fox News reported, of the 77-year-old veteran lawmaker who is facing primary challenges.
“Larson also charged Trump with “murder, war crimes and piracy” for ordering a naval blockade around Venezuela targeting U.S.-sanctioned oil tankers ahead of the U.S. capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in January and for launching dozens of strikes against alleged drug trafficking vessels in the Eastern Pacific and the Caribbean.”
It is unlikely that the impeachment push will succeed, as Democrats remain in the minority in both houses of Congress. But that may change following this year’s midterm elections.
