In an unusual but understandable display of anger, former President Barack Obama slammed Donald Trump’s racist and sexist hate speech and fear mongering during a private event to raise campaign funds in support of former Vice President Joe Biden.
Obama is famously cool, calm, and collected whenever he speaks, rarely flashing anger or frustration. But Trump’s agenda of hate and fear is so pervasive that even Obama has reached a breaking point — at least in private.
According to the New York Times:
At fund-raising events where he has pulled in more than $24 million for Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s campaign in the past two months, former President Barack Obama has privately unleashed on President Trump to party donors, bringing up past accusations of Mr. Trump’s ‘assaulting women’ and warning of his efforts to push ‘nativist, racist, sexist’ fears and resentments.
With less than 100 days until the presidential election, Mr. Obama has laid out the stakes of 2020 in forceful fashion. He has urged support for Mr. Biden, his former vice president, while worrying about the state of American democracy itself, even making an oblique reference to Nazi Germany, according to notes made from recordings of Mr. Obama’s remarks, donors and others who have been on the calls.”

You know it’s bad when even Obama is comparing Trump’s administration to the Nazis on the down-low. But it’s not like Trump has done anything to avoid such comparisons. Indeed, he openly flaunts his support for white supremacy and pushes policies that Hitler once did, such as putting kids in cages and unleashing secret police upon the citizenry. Trump is now even suggesting the election be “delayed” as polls continue to show him getting his a** handed to him by Biden.
Obama warned that Trump’s supporters are going to vote in November and urged Americans across the country to flock to the voting booth to counter them.
“It’s just glued to Fox News and Breitbart and Limbaugh and just this conservative echo chamber — and so, they’re going to turn out to vote,” Obama said. “What he has unleashed and what he continues to try to tap into is the fears and anger and resentment of people who, in some cases, really are having a tough time and have seen their prospects, or communities where they left, declining. And Trump tries to tap into that and redirect in nativist, racist, sexist ways.”
Trump really only has himself to blame. Former presidents are usually more reserved, but Trump repeatedly hurled racist attacks at Obama throughout his eight years in office. So Obama is using this election as the perfect opportunity to fire back. If Trump loses, Obama will get the sweet taste of revenge he has likely been waiting for years to savor. Unlike January 2017, Obama has to be looking forward to attending the January 2021 inauguration of his friend — all as he watches Trump pout with the realization that prosecution awaits him as soon as Biden says “So help me God.”
