Donald Trump has been driven to anger by the actions and existence of Barack Obama, like with few other things. He probably won’t like what Obama had to say this week about his Oval Office decorating tastes.
According to The Daily Beast, the comments came in behind-the-scenes footage released for Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Happiness, the HBO comedy series with Larry David that Obama produced.
“The footage shows the moment Obama enters a 2014 recreation of the Oval Office and notes the changes his predecessor made to the real-life version,” the Beast reported. The show’s final episode featured a recreation of the 2014 “Tan Suit” controversy.
Obama praised the show’s production designers for accurately recreating the Oval Office, although he did note that it looks different from Trump’s second-term version.

“Although,” the president said, “I do want to point out—there’s no gold sign on the outside that says ‘Oval Office… I can’t believe I didn’t think of that.”
“David, who plays fictionalized historical figures throughout the show’s comedic take on American history, plays an aide who spills a Mango Tango smoothie on the president’s navy blue suit. As a solution, his character encourages Obama to don the tan suit that would dominate the news cycle for months to follow,” the Beast said.
The new gold “Oval Office” letters were added to the White House in late 2025, People magazine reported at the time.

“The shimmery Oval Office sign matches the style of letters used to title Trump’s ‘Presidential Walk of Fame’ in the West Colonnade around the corner,” People reported at the time that the letters first appeared.
“The Presidential Walk of Fame, which frames another edge of the Rose Garden, debuted at the White House in September. The installation features gold-framed portraits of all the U.S. presidents — with the exception of former President Joe Biden — displayed in order of their election.”
