According to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack, Ivanka Trump and her family caused anger and disruption during a holiday trip to Aspen.
Ivanka Trump, her husband Jared Kushner, and their three children arrived in Aspen in late December. Their visit led to a large and heavy security presence in the town, which many people found upsetting.
The first daughter is 44 years old and was once a senior adviser in her father’s White House. She also runs her own business. Kushner, also 44, worked as a senior adviser in the Trump administration. They are both known for being wealthy and high-profile.
Local visitors and residents said the family’s arrival “turned the ski town into a full‑blown security lockdown.” Ski paths that people normally used were blocked. Roads were closed. Many holidaymakers said they had to change their plans just because of the extra security.

One insider described seeing armed guards “hovering around kids on the slopes” as “surreal,” adding that it felt strange to see that much force in a place like Aspen. Another visitor said it was hard to understand why so much public attention and money had to go into protecting a private family.
Aspen is known as a quiet ski destination where famous people come to rest, have fun, and blend in. One local told Shuter that “celebrities come here to disappear — not to shut the place down.” For many, the big security operation made the town feel crowded and controlled.
Many people were upset because Ivanka and Kushner do not hold official government jobs anymore. One holiday maker said, “Aspen isn’t the White House, and nobody elected her.” This concern was shared by people who felt that the town should not change its normal pace and accessibility because a private family was in town.
Photos of the Trump family began to spread online. People took pictures of Ivanka wearing a bright red snowsuit and the kids moving around with security. Those photos became part of the online discussion.
Some visitors said this was not just about inconvenience. They said it showed a larger issue. A private holiday turned into a situation where local people and guests were forced to work around a family used to special treatment.
Local businesses also felt the impact. Restaurants and shops that counted on a normal holiday crowd saw fewer customers at key times. People who came to Aspen for rest and fun found themselves waiting, rerouting, or looking for ways around the security zones.
