This was not the first time stairs had been noticed. Trump has said in public that he watches other leadersโ€™ stumbles and avoids the same fate.

โ€œEvery day, the guyโ€™s falling down stairs,โ€ he told military officers this year. He added, โ€œIโ€™m very careful. You know, when I walk downstairsโ€”like Iโ€™m on stairs like these stairsโ€”I walk very slowly. Nobody has to set a record. Just try not to fall because it doesnโ€™t work out well… Just walk nice and easy. You donโ€™t have to set any record.โ€

Reporters and viewers pointed to other moments this year. In June, he briefly stumbled while boarding Air Force One. Cameras and onlookers have also noticed bruises on his hands and swelling in his ankles during recent appearances. Those pictures keep the conversation about age and stamina alive.

The White House pushed back. Spokespeople and the presidentโ€™s doctor said he is well. They say bruises and swelling come from handshakes, routine meds, and common conditions that affect older people. They argue a careful step down a short stair is sensible, not news.

Still, images matter in politics. A tiny visual can change the tone of a day.

Timing makes the clip stick. The greeting with Netanyahu was part of a busy run of diplomacy at Mar-a-Lago.
