Palm Beach Residents Reportedly Fear The Area Could Become A “Permanent Beacon For His More Rabid, Lawless Supporters” If Trump Lives There

Donald Trump is so toxic that his move to his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, hasn’t been received well by many of his new neighbors. Trump wants to make his resort his permanent residence even though he signed something years ago to agree that that would be forbidden. Well, it’s on-brand for the former president not to keep his word, and there are other problems he’s facing, according to the Washington Post. The outlet reports that opponents of Trump’s residency are concerned that the community could be inundated with lawless MAGA supporters.

“A new opposition group composed of several attorneys — Preserve Palm Beach, Inc., which was formed in the past few days — is building a legal case to attack Trump’s residency plans,” the news outlet reports. ‘The group’s attorney, Philip Johnston, told the council Tuesday that allowing Trump to live at Mar-a-Lago could make Palm Beach a “permanent beacon for his more rabid, lawless supporters.”’

Another opponent, Glenn Zeitz, a former attorney in New Jersey who owns a home in Palm Beach,  told the outlet that making accommodations for Trump would “set a bad precedent” for similar “use agreements” between the town and clubs, including at least one use agreement that is currently being negotiated. As it turns out, according to the Post, it was decades earlier that Zeitz had defeated Trump in an Atlantic City eminent domain battle.

Meanwhile, an attorney, according to the report, “has tried to counter suspicions that Trump is not actually a bona fide employee of the club by telling the council that the former president now walks around the grounds acting as if he’s “the mayor of Mar-a-Lago.” He also showed the council a list of Trump’s jobs at the club, including the sort of greeter job that senior citizens take at big-box stores: “welcomes/thanks those attending” events.”

Somehow it’s difficult to picture Trump as a sort of  Walmart greeter, but that’s what bounced in my mind when his attorney described the former president’s job requirements at Mar-a-Lago. Imagine leaving office with your brand so toxic that your new neighbors want you gone. Well, that’s Donald J. Trump, and his impeachment hearing in the Senate is happening right now after he incited the deadly insurrection on January 6. Yeah, I wouldn’t want that guy for my neighbor, either.
