While we’re facing the most divisive and toxic presidents of our lifetime, so Dr. Ralph Douglas West — the senior pastor and founder of The Church Without Walls — dropped an appropriate truth bomb as he spoke at George Floyd’s funeral in Houston, Texas on Tuesday. In a nutshell, Pastor West said that we need to cut the head off the snake to bring change and help the nation heal following the murder of another unarmed black individual by police officers.
Attendees at the funeral broke out in applause when Pastor West said the first thing we need to do is “clean out the White House.”
“So, it’s a reasonable question — is this going to be just like so many other movements, a moment of anger and rage, then back to business as usual?” West asked. “You could say that because the prejudiced and the bigoted are not going to change.”
“But we can do some things to change them. That’s what I hope we will do. First of all, we can make sure that we don’t stop the fight,” he continued. “That we stay with it, and that we make sure that somebody knows that we are not going to stand for this to keep ongoing. Obviously, the first thing that we have to do is to clean out the White House. That has to come closer to us in Washington, our states and counties and cities have to have good leadership, and that means we have to go and vote.”

Trump’s godawful election empowered the worst people in our society to be abusive toward others. The cure to their resurgence will be waiting for us at the polls on November 3rd. Getting Trump out of the White House won’t eradicate racism, but we can set an example, and then work so that we can find solutions. Racists need to be shunned from society, not promoted to jobs in this administration.
Cut the head off the snake, please.
