President Donald Trump is visiting the U.K. this week for a rare second state visit to that country by a U.S. president. And in typical Trump fashion, he said some strange things.
“It is a singular privilege to be the first American president welcomed here. And if you think about it, it’s a lot of presidents and this was the second state visit, and that is the first. Maybe that is going to be the last time—I hope it is, actually,” Trump said.
It’s unclear what the president meant when he said he hoped it was the last state visit to Windsor Castle.

Trump is not, in fact, the first president to visit Windsor Circle. While Buckingham Palace is a more frequent destination for presidents, several have been to Windsor, including Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Trump himself, who was there in 2018. It’s possible that Trump meant he was the first president to visit there since King Charles became king, which he is, or was confusing the “first” of being the first president to make two state visits with a different first.
Quite a few people noticed the mistake:
Does he think he’s the first American president to visit Windsor Castle? Does he not remember that he visited Windsor Castle during his first term? Will anyone ask him why he can’t seem to remember things he’s already done? https://t.co/kLsejtSwW6

Also on his visit, Trump was greeted by street protests:
