Donald Trump has picked fights with judges, governors, television hosts, and world leaders. On Monday, he somehow added kindergarten to the list.

The president shared a video on Truth Social showing children graduating from Gateway STEM Academy, a public charter school in St. Paul, Minnesota. It was the kind of kindergarten graduation parents proudly record every year, with children in tiny caps and gowns singing on stage while their families watched from the audience. Many of the girls wore hijabs.

The president shared the clip using the original caption from the conservative X account End Wokeness, which read: “Public school in St. Paul, Minnesota. Every girl is in a hijab… in kindergarten.”

Like many public schools across the country, Gateway STEM Academy brings together families from different cultures and backgrounds. The graduation itself was soon pushed aside, with the discussion revolving almost entirely around religion, immigration, and politics rather than the children standing on stage.

Only days earlier, another story involving children had already left people shaking their heads. A Kentucky church came under heavy backlash after a Vacation Bible School skit showed men dressed as soldiers appearing to execute a character portraying the devil while children chanted, “Take him out! Blow him up.”

Pastor Dewayne Walker defended the performance, insisting, “The clip you saw was simply killing the devil,” adding that the church had used similar lessons for years and that they were trying to present “a real picture for kids to visibly see what’s going on.”

Trump has repeatedly presented himself as a champion for children. During his 2025 inaugural address, he promised, “We will not forget our God, we will not forget our Constitution, and we will not forget our children.”
