Concerns about President Donald Trump’s mental health are surfacing again. Two respected psychologists are now pointing to clear signs of decline — both in his speech and physical movement.
Harry Segal, a senior psychology lecturer at Cornell University, told The Guardian that Trump often shows signs of disorganized thinking. He said the president “digresses without thinking – he’ll just switch topics without self-regulation, without having a coherent narrative.”
Segal also pointed to something more serious — confabulation. That’s when someone invents or alters memories without knowing they’re doing it. Segal explained it like this: “It’s where he takes an idea or something that’s happened and he adds to it things that have not happened.”
A clear example came in February, when Trump met with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump falsely claimed Ukraine started the war — a statement that was completely wrong. Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.

Trump’s mental clarity has been questioned for years, but experts say it’s getting worse. Just last month, he gave a speech to Republicans where he claimed grocery prices had gone down and inflation was improving. CNN quickly fact-checked him — both claims were false. Prices are still rising.
Dr. John Gartner, a well-known psychologist and former assistant professor at Johns Hopkins, is also raising red flags. He says Trump is not just showing mental decline — his physical health is also falling apart.
Speaking on The Dean Obeidallah Show, Dr. Gartner said, “When we talk about deterioration from dementia, I was focusing on language because that’s the thing we most observe, but also we always see deterioration in motor performance.”
Dr. Gartner said Trump’s movements and gait have changed. “We found some of him doing athletic activities in the 80s. I have a film of him playing volleyball, diving to dig the ball, and popping up and hitting a high shot, he was very coordinated. And now, you know he really does have trouble getting up the stairs, he does trip and fall.”
He added that it’s not just about stumbling. It’s how he walks.
“The other thing that’s actually even more diagnostic, and I had a neurologist point this out and then several neurologists confirmed it, if you watch the way he walks, he has what they call a leg swing, where his right — he kind of swings it in a semicircle like it’s a dead weight, and he’s just kind of swinging it around.”
Gartner said that kind of movement is often linked to frontotemporal dementia — a condition that affects behavior, thinking, and movement. He made it clear he’s not officially diagnosing Trump, but he said these signs are hard to ignore.
Rumors have also swirled about Trump possibly wearing a catheter under his pants and trying to hide other physical limitations from the public.
None of this has been confirmed by Trump’s team, but the public appearances, constant rambling, and wild false statements keep fueling speculation.
