Trump has spent a lot of time accusing his opponents of lounging around and ignoring the needs of the American people. Apparently, he forgot to check his own schedule because if anyone’s on an extended vacation, it’s him. While he loves to talk about others “doing nothing” while the world burns, he seems to be a bit more concerned with keeping his golf handicap low.

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) recently called him out during her appearance on MSNBC’s *Deadline White House*. She fired back with:

“If he wants to get out on the campaign trail and talk about his tax plan, if he wants to talk about what he is proposing for this country and he says it with any shred of truth, then he should be covered like a presidential candidate. Otherwise, he should just stay in his golf cart eating cheeseburgers.”

McCaskill wasn’t done, hinting that Trump’s team is actively keeping him out of sight for good reason.

“That’s where his campaign wants him because he isn’t even campaigning this week. I think they figured out we can’t shut him up, so let’s shut him in and make sure he stays on the golf course. And, you know, covering the fact that he’s not working at this, covering the fact that he’s lying is very important. But acting as if there’s some false equivalency between what Kamala Harris is campaigning on and about and what Trump is campaigning on and about doesn’t serve this country well.”

And let’s be real, it’s not just a one-time thing. This marks the second consecutive month that Trump has taken a whole week off, prompting journalist Aaron Rupar from Public Notice to pull out the receipts and show that Trump’s calendar is looking a little… empty.

National Security attorney Bradley Moss’s Tweet in response was one of the most popular ones.

Another comment referred to the incident that took place at Arlington National Cemetery.

Even though Trump’s website currently lists only one public event for Trump, it has been noted that Sean Hannity will be hosting a town hall with Trump on September 4, 2024. People on social media also pointed out that he has a town hall on Fox News Wednesday night which he tried to con Harris into taking but was never initially agreed to and dates in Wisconsin.

So, while Trump keeps wagging his finger at everyone else, it’s pretty clear that his own priorities are, well, a little more focused on the 18th hole than the Oval Office. Regardless of whether it’s one or two events that are actually scheduled for this week, the irony is hard to ignore: the guy who’s always talking about how no one else is doing their job seems to be the one with his feet up. McCaskill’s takedown just highlights the growing gap between Trump’s self-promotion and his actual commitment to running a serious campaign. Voters might start to wonder if a candidate who prefers the fairway to the campaign trail is the right one to lead the country.
